Photoshoot for teens boosts confidence and family bonding

Victoria BC family photographer shares why it’s important to capture adolescents

Do you like roller coasters? If you’ve got a tween or teen in the house, I hope you do. As a mom of a 12 and 10-year-old, I know that some days can have me scrambling to buckle up but then discovering there are no buckles on this coaster. It’s exhausting and scary and thrilling all at the same time. But it’s also worth documenting. Here’s why:

Family Bonding Happens at the Photoshoot

There’s a reason I ask families lots of silly questions and have families play silly games together in my studio. Parents and siblings start laughing and connecting and before they know it, they’re not just having their photos taken, they’re actually having fun as a family. Looking back on these images, your teenager can’t help but feel the love.

The Studio is a Great Place for Self-Expression

The tween years are a time of rapid personal growth and self-discovery. A photoshoot gives tweens with an opportunity to express themselves creatively through their clothing and poses. It allows them to showcase their evolving interests, passions, and personalities in a visually compelling way.

Stepping in Front of the Lens Boosts Confidence

Tweens are often navigating a period of heightened self-consciousness and insecurity. A well-executed photoshoot, complete with positive reinforcement and encouragement, can help boost their self-esteem and confidence. Seeing themselves portrayed in a beautiful and flattering light can empower teens to embrace their unique qualities and feel more comfortable in their own skin.

Being a Teen is Full of Milestones Worth Celebrating

Whether it's a birthday, graduation, or other significant milestone, a photoshoot provides a tangible way to commemorate these important moments in a young person's life. It serves as a visual reminder of their achievements and growth, capturing memories that can be cherished and shared with loved ones for years to come.

As you can see, tween and teen photoshoots are more than just a fun activity or a way to capture pretty pictures! They play a significant role in fostering self-expression, confidence, and family connections, while also documenting important milestones and preserving memories for years to come.
