A Quick Guide for Pet Parents

You just booked a photoshoot for you and your furry friend. While you know they’ll look great naturally your thoughts start to wander to what you should wear. Here’s a quick guide to help you decide your outfit—without stressing over every detail.

1. Keep It Comfortable

Your pet can sense if you’re uncomfortable, and it’ll show in the photos. Go for clothes that make you feel at ease—nothing too tight or stiff. After all, you'll likely be sitting, crouching and playing with your pet, and you want to look relaxed!

2. Go Casual

If you’re a casual person, by all means choose an outfit that you love. Jeans and a t-shit, or even jogging pants and a sweatshirt can make a cute statement. That said, make sure your comfy clothes are clean and wrinkle-free. And leave your ball cap at home, as it can cast a dark shadows around your eyes.

3. Or Go All Out!

For a studio shoot, over the top elegant attire can be fun too! Especially if you juxtapose fancy and rough around the edges. For example, I love the look fancy attire with a rough hewn wooden block stool and and a hand painted backdrop where you can see the clamps and the edge of the fraying canvas. Add a snaggle toothed dog to the mix and you’ve got perfection.

4. Avoid Distracting Patterns

Bold, colorful prints can steal the spotlight from you (or your pet!). Stick with solid colors that complement your furry friend. Neutral tones, pastel or jewel tones tend to work well with any pet.

5. Consider Makeup

From soft and subtle to bold and glam, makeup is a nice finishing touch. So if you normally wear makeup, do it the way you like. If you don’t wear makeup, consider having it done professionally. A trained makeup artist can ensure a natural look that is totally you, just more polished.

Final Thoughts

Remember, the goal is to have fun and capture the bond between you and your pet. Stay true to your style, keep it comfortable, and choose colors that bring out the best in both of you. If you put some thought into it ahead of time the results will be amazing. And if you have any questions know that I’m here to help along the way!
