Unique locations for a family photoshoot in Victoria BC

Victoria has no shortage of iconic spots for family photos. What if you want something a bit different? Here are some new locations to try:

Glenco Cove Kwatsech Park

This municipal park was once the site of a village, which was home to the Lekwungen people. You can see how the area would be a beautiful place to settle, with dense forest, serene coves and rocky outcrops facing the Haro Strait.

Today it’s easy to drive down to the park and hop out for photos along the trails and flat rocky surfaces overlooking the strait. If mobility isn’t an issue, staircases nearby lead to two different beaches, one covered in large pebbles and one with coarse sand and plenty of big driftwood logs to sit on.

This east Saanich park is a fun place to hang out as a family. Beach comb, skip stones and watch the otters – with any luck you’ll barely know I’m there! I had a blast capturing an extended family session at Glenco Cove Kwatsech Park last year.

Harling Point

More than just a majestic part of Oak Bay, Harling Point is a Historic Site of Canada that occupies a 3.5 acre Chinese Graveyard.

Its feng shui design which includes an include unobstructed view of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic Mountain make it aninteresting place for a family session. The grassy fields and natural rocky outcrops provide lots of space for exploring as a family. Go in the spring to spot daffodils between the rocks!

Saanich Gorge Park

This small park, right by Gorge waterway is filled with a variety of mature trees, shrubs, benches and picnic tables. It’s a fun spot for a family outings, with easy access by vehicle and foot.

Curtis Point is connected to Gorge Park to the west. The rocky point extends into the inlet, a great place catch the sunset or sunrise.I had a lot of fun doing winter maternity session there last year.

What is your favourite local hangout? I’d love to meet you there and capture your family.
